As part of my writer residency at Seven Sisters Country Park & along the Sussex Heritage Coast (which runs until Oct 2023), commissioned by the South Downs National Park, and supported by Arts Council England, I have written a new body of mythopoetic, speculative stories and narrative poems. Alongside this, I commissioned and curated work by writers involved with this landscape and literature project, which interweaves trans-global perspectives on the multiple identities of this coastal landscape, connection with the more-than-human, reflections on ecological loss, & future, collective dreaming.
You can read more about our We See You Now programme across this landscape (2020 -22), here , through writing/walking retreats with writers of colour based in the South East (produced by Writing our Legacy). The creative refuge offered by the landscape & a sense of solidarity & kinship through what has been an intense time of change, has been a key driver for the evolution of the project. There will be more announcements from late April pending funding and support.
The We See You Now programme included:
- Dialogues with writers/activists of colour across the landscape through my residency podcast, The Colour of Chalk
- New writing commissions.
- Writers retreats across the landscape, led by myself and produced by Writing Our Legacy and follow-up writer days across the landscape & online. A masterclass retreat in May 2022 with renowned novelist Leone Ross.
- Talks, dialogues, writing workshops and broadcasts. Listen to my Radio 3 into the Wild /The Essay writer/presenter piece here for a flavour of my work. More public work to be announced in April/May 2023.
