We Hear You Now

We Hear You Now, a spoken word audio walk commission embedded on benches, signposts and gates across 6 km of the Seven Sisters and Sussex Heritage Coast landscape – and online. This collection,  which I have curated and co-written, together with Georgina Aboud, Jenny Arach, Razia Aziz, Joyoti Grech Cato, Oluwafemi Hughes, Dulani Kulasinghe, Georgina Parke Akila Richards, Pauline Rutter and Sheila Auguste, presents contemporary speculative fiction, poetry and new myths by Sussex-based writers of colour.

Watch a film made by Bip Mistry, of highlights of our work (above). We Hear You Now grew out of my 2020-23 Writing Residency at Seven Sisters Country Park and across the Heritage Coast, commissioned by the South Downs National Park Authority which supported a two year programme of research, walking and creative writing,  called We See You Now. Both have been majority funded by Arts Council England. Explore our work online here.

Below is a second legacy film a series of testimonials interviews with writers and commissioners on the project on our experience of developing the work for this iconic site.

Finding Listening Points

We Hear You Now, can be found across listening points on benches, gates or signposts, across Seven Sisters Country Park and the Sussex Heritage Coast, taking in the Cuckmere Valley and stretching along parts of the Sussex Heritage Coast, from Beachy Head, via Birling Gap and Belle Tout Lighthouse – to Seaford.

Hosted on plaques featuring NFC and QR codes, you can use your mobile phone to listen as you walk, save for later, or just sit and enjoy the vistas in this landscape that inspired the writing.

Each plaque is located in the area of the landscape that inspired the work – take in the views while listening.

Use the map below to find the listening points or download the leaflet.

Explore The Work

You can also explore these audio stories, new myths and poetry from home, on the South Downs National Park YouTube channel which is linked to the Listening Posts, and on my Soundcloud channel below. There is background info on each writer and track on the Seven Sisters site as well.
